alexander already gave a good overview.  but let me tell you, a Fireball
attached to a wireless xlr transmitter is *really* sweet.  mine is a
samson airline 77 with the ax-1 transmitter.  the ax-1 is about the size
of a cigarette lighter, and connects to the fireball.  small, weighs
almost nothing.  i live in northern NJ and have never had any interference
problems.  it *is* a fixed frequency, so you could get conflicts with
band or jam mates, but i haven't.

it comes with a microphone which is pretty nice, but heavy, and without
volume control.  still, it's a spare mic.  the set, with transmitter,
receiver, and microphone was cheaper than buying the parts separately.

so you'd plug the output of the receiver to the PA instead of an amp.

wireless is wonderful.  i can't imagine being tethered again.
